In the summer the club ramps up the established programs the members participate in to accommodate the extended hours.

Focusing on preventing summer learning loss, the club runs academic programs that focus on fun while learning. The club strives to keep our members active during the summer and runs healthy lifestyle programs! During the summer the club runs themed weeks with programs and activities around the theme; and at the end of the summer we reflect on everything they learned.

2023 Summer Highlights

Summer Theme---Level Up- Summer Fun

Field trips to be determined.
Trauma Informed Care
The Club implemented trauma informed care as taught by the National Center for Trauma Informed Care (NCTIC) and SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) throughout the Boys & Girls Club of Johnson City/Washington County. From this and other ongoing training we have developed a two-hour training program that every staff goes through during summer staff training and after school staff training twice a year.

Our goal is to expand this reach of ACE/TIC Training to caregivers (parents, guardians) that teaches them about adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and trauma informed care (TIC) approaches to communicating with their kids. Implementation efforts, outreach and development of new training tools is ongoing.  All staff members at the location are trained in Trauma Informed Care practices and procedures. Ongoing training efforts help to ensure that the material taught is truly learned and retained. Child outcomes such as behavior, club attendance, grades, and school attendance are monitored to verify effects of the intervention.

At least one staff person who is present at the organization and is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about TIC
is charged with the task of monitoring to make sure that the TIC concepts that were taught are actually being implemented.
A quiet room called the "Tree House" and designated areas throughout the building
are utilized on a case by case basis throughout the day as needed.
